Theme 1: Joint Meeting: CNRS Curriculum Committee and Council of Chairs (Nov. 16th, 2006)

Facilitators: Steve Smith & Mary Virnoche

  1. There was concern about the use of the word "justice" at least in connection with "economic justice." Yet there appeared to endorsement of Humboldt core value #5 discussing "equitable treatment." After some discussion, the group suggested rewriting #1 to read: "Humboldt graduates actively work toward improving social justice, environmental responsibility, and economic conditions in their workplaces and communities."
  2. They were ok with #2
  3. On the third outcome, there was concern about not specifically noting "science" as form of knowledge students should be able to apply. There was also interest in including the word "acquire" in addition to the existing word "apply." The group suggested the rewording: "Humboldt graduates acquire & apply quantitative, qualitative, scientific, historical, aesthetic, cultural, and ethical information appropriately to make, implement and evaluate decisions."
  4. They wanted to add "verbal" communication to the 4th outcome. And “concepts” In general, it seemed the group felt that most of the ideas that they had brainstormed were adequately addressed in the draft with the exceptions noted above. The brainstorm list is below:
