Theme 1: Outcomes Working Draft (11/6/06)

Discussing Core Academic Expectations for Humboldt Graduates (WASC Theme One: Greater Humboldt Expectations)

The outcomes listed below, prepared by the WASC Theme One Action Team, emerge from the campus mission, vision, and strategic plan, all crafted by the entire campus community, and from the graduation pledge, developed and sustained by Humboldt students.

They constitute a very initial draft in answer to this central question:

What should all our graduates know and be able to do as a result of their Humboldt experience?

  1. Humboldt graduates actively work toward improving social, environmental, and economic justice in their workplaces and communities.
  2. Humboldt graduates engage meaningfully with a diverse range of individuals, communities, and viewpoints.
  3. Humboldt graduates apply [quantitative, qualitative, historical, aesthetic, cultural, and ethical] information appropriately to make, implement, and evaluate decisions.
  4. Humboldt graduates skillfully use a variety of formal and informal types of writing.
  5. Humboldt graduates demonstrate competency in their major fields of study.
